Pickup is at 12:15 AM so you arrive at Tumpak Sewu in the calm early morning — the best light and the fewest crowds — and are back in Surabaya by about 1:30 PM.

How hard is the trek?

The descent into the canyon is steep and slippery in places, using bamboo stairs and ladders. Waterproof trekking shoes are essential; take it slow and use the handrails.

Will I get wet?

Expect spray at the canyon floor and shallow river crossings — waterproof shoes and a dry change of clothes are recommended.
